How Does Restylane Work – The Science

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in your skin, it is found throughout the human body as well as in most other living organisms. It has many functions including giving our skin elasticity and providing volume, resulting in a youthful appearance.

In its natural form hyaluronic acid lasts just a few days.  As we age, our body produces less hyaluronic acid causing a loss of elasticity and volume in our skin.  This results in wrinkles, folds and a dehydrated crepe look that can make you appear tired and older than your years.

The Restylane range of dermal fillers are manufactured using a stabilised form of hyaluronic acid which slows the speed at which it degrades in the body, water can be retained over a longer period of time.  This increased ability to bind and hold water increases elasticity and fullness of the skin and longevity of effect.

A patented (NASHA) technology is unique to Restylane, this means that unlike other hyaluronic acid aesthetic treatments, the hyaluronic acid found in Restylane only differs slightly from your skin’s own natural hyaluronic acid (~1%).  The result is a natural and safe aesthetic treatment that is long lasting but not permanent, allowing you to change your look over time.
