They work for horizontal forehead lines, vertical lines between the brow, crows feet, dimpled chin, the neck, the corners of the mouth, bunny lines on the nose, they slim a square face, reduce a gummy smile and also prevent excessive sweating in underarms. They can be used to create symmetry in asymmetrical features.

Muscle relaxant is probably the safest and most widely researched cosmetic product available today. It works in a targeted way to relax the specific muscles that cause frown lines to form and is a simple minimally invasive procedure that is administered in a few tiny injections directly into the targeted muscles.

The results are visible in about 1-2 weeks and last for between 3-6 months The treatments can also be combined with other treatments such as fillers and peels to provide overall facial rejuvenation

There are 3 types of Botulinum Toxin Type A available in the UK at the moment and these have been split into two categories, each with a license for use cosmetically and therapeutically.

At Skin Revival we use bocouture botox. Botulinum Toxin (Botox) can be used to treat tension headaches, migraines, excessive sweating of the armpits, neck spasms, torticollis, excessive teeth grinding, bruxism, excessive frown lines, jowls, lip lines, bunny lines and many other indications

Botulinum Toxin is the most effective treatment for smoothing out dynamic facial wrinkles (the ones that appear when you smile, frown or laugh), for example on the forehead, around the eyes or between your eyebrows. One session temporarily relaxes muscle contractions to give you a fresher, brighter, more relaxed appearance. Wrinkles become smoother and often even disappear altogether. Most people require 1 session every 4 months in the first 2 years, then every 5-6 months thereafter. Consider these treatments as part of your skin care maintenance.

  • Refrain from touching the treated area for 3-4 hours so Botox remains in position.
  • Remain upright for 6 hours.
  • Repeatedly tense treated muscle groups for 3-4 hours after treatment, as toxin works better in active muscles.
  • Exercise and alcohol should be avoided for 48 hours.
  • You may develop a slight headache following treatment. You may take paracetamol. Arnica cream can be applied to any bruising.
  • Do not repeat Botox treatment more frequently than every 8-12 weeks as this may prevent Botox from being effective in the future. No line will disappear overnight, but when the muscles are immobilised, results will improve with time. Regular 3 to 4 monthly repeat treatments help this process.

Botox Injections for Wrinkles

Botox injections are the best known of a group of medications that use various forms of botulinum toxin to paralyze muscle activity for about four to six weeks.

Noted primarily for the ability to reduce the appearance of some facial wrinkles, Botox injections are also used to treat such problems as repetitive neck spasms, excessive sweating, overactive bladder and some causes of crossed eyes. Botox injections may also help prevent chronic migraines in some people.

The FDA approved such usage in the late 1980s upon the discovery that Botox could stop ailments like blepharospasm (uncontrolled blinking) and strabismus (lazy eye). Doctors have been using Botox for years to successfully treat wrinkles and facial creases. In April 2002, Botox gained FDA approval for treatment of moderate-to-severe frown lines between the eyebrows – called glabellar lines and Botox is also used for other areas of the face as well.

Botox blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles. The injected muscle can no longer contract for four to six months, which causes the wrinkles to relax and soften.

It is most often used on forehead lines, crow’s feet (lines around the eye) and frown lines. Wrinkles caused by sun damage and gravity will not respond to Botox.

Getting Botox takes only a few minutes and no anesthesia is required. Botox is injected with a fine needle into specific muscles with only minor discomfort. It generally takes three to fourteen days to take full effect. Aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications should be stopped two weeks before treatment as well in order to reduce bruising.

  • Wrinkles in turn can be divided into two categories: fine surface lines and deep furrows. Wrinkle treatments are in general much more effective for fine lines. Deeper creases may require more aggressive techniques, such as plastic surgery.
  • Factors that promote wrinkling include smoking, skin type (people with light-colored skin and blue eyes are more susceptible to sun damage), heredity (some families wrinkle more).
  • Treatments available for wrinkles include medical treatments (such as vitamin A acid, alpha hydroxy acids, antioxidants, and moisturizer) and more invasive procedures (such as glycolic peels, deep peels, diamond microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing, surgical procedures, and Botox)
